    Hi there,

A fellow Ravelry member was brought some yarn from Westport, CO Mayo and it is not labeled and needs more info on her yarn.

I am guessing it comes from a shop called The Sweater Shop but am wondering if you can lead us to any other yarn stores in Westport?

    Thanks,
    Diane

      Hi Diane,

This has turned into a bit of a treasure hunt! I’ve looked and looked, and these are the only possibilities I can come up with for where the yarn was purchased:

      John O’Briens, Main Street
      Anthony Ryans, Bridge Street
There also seems to be a store called Carraig Donn on Bridge Street, but I can’t seem to be able to find out is they only sell knitwear or if they also sell yarn.
Derryaun Crafts is not in Westport town, but is only a few miles away.

I can’t find any mention of a Sweater Shop in Westport. It occurs to me that maybe Foxford Woolen Mills sell some yarn in one of the shops, but I couldn’t find any reference to yarn on their site, only ready made blankets etc.

It seems Westport could do with a yarn store!

Sorry I couldn’t come up with anything more definitive.

    Hi;
Anyone out there that can still get real Irish wool, not the acrylic blend just wool? I have bought quite a bit of the wool years ago but when trying to get more Blarney Woolen Mills has told me that they don’t sell real wool anymore. At one time they had some very beautiful wool that they called tweed wool. I got some heather tweed and a beautiful purple tweed. I would very much like to try and get more of the same wool. If anyone can help point me in the right direction I would be most grateful.

    Thanks
    Bess

      Hi Bess,

There are still plenty of Irish wool yarns available. I think the tweed one you are referring to is Studio Donegal “Donegal Tweed”. It was previously known as Kilcarra Donegal Tweed. Kerry Woollen Mills also produce a 100% wool Aran weight yarn, and Cushendale Woollen Mills produce gorgeous 4ply and DK weight wool and a mohair/wool bouclé yarn.

All of these yarns are readily available here, and online from http://www.theyarnroom.com.

      Hope this helps!
