I live in USA, but have been knitting the traditonal Aran sweaters for many years. I have visited Ireland several times and always come home with a bag of wool. For the past few years, it has been very hard to get, but I was fortunate to hear about the Kerry Woollen Mills just outside of Killarney. The wool is beautiful and the people there are very nice and accomodating. I have even phoned them and they have mail-ordered to me. I am looking for TRADITIONAL patterns with raglan sleeves —very hard to find. Please help me if you can. Thanks.

Hi Kathleen,
I saw your post and wondered if you had any luck finding the raglan patterns. I too have looked for them with very little success.
I have been to the Kerry Woolen Mills and I agree about the wonderful wool, My sister and I are headed back to Ireland in May and I was thrilled to find this website as the other times we have been there finding yarn shops has been difficult.
Any other thoughts would be apprciated!!
Thanks

I was looking for traditional aran patters and came across a website – vintageknittinglady.co.uk – it was brilliant, very efficient and the aptterns arrived very quickly. I have knit two of the patterns I’ve bought an am finding that the older patterns are quite small.

Hi all
Love that this site is devoted to Irish knitting and crochet. I would like to let people know we have a craft circle that meets every Friday morning in our local bookshop. We are based in Bookworm, Liberty Square, Thurles, Co Tipperary. We meet every Friday morning from 10.30am to 12.00 noon.
John Butler is the owner and is delighted to accommodate us. He has tea and coffee and some confectionery available for us to buy if we so wish. If you would like to come along any Friday we would be delighted to meet you. Knitting and crochet mostly but we welcome all crafters to join us. Look forward to seeing some new people next week.

Hi Edwina,
I’m from Canada and new at this site and don’t really know how to go about posting my question, so, I hope you can help me and if not, I hope you will be able to let me know who might help me with this question.
I have made many of the different dolls from the Jean Greenhowe’s kits, including the McScarecrow Clan dolls which everybody loves, especially when I have them out at Christmas time. The problem is that the McScarecrow Clan is a Scottish clan and my family ancestry is Irish (O’Bannon or Bannon). I would like to make the same knitted dolls but with Irish outfits and right hair color so they look like an Irish Clan. I thought of dressing the father and son in blue and green kilts (which I have been told was the Bannon tartan colors) for the father or leader of the clan and for the boy. But I have no idea what type of clothing I should make for the mother and little girl nor what I could replace the Scottish bagpiper uncle with. Any help or suggestions on your part would be greatly appreciated. If you need to forward my message to someone else, please free to do so.
Please note that I have been searching numerous Irish knitting websites but couldn’t find find a contact to send my question to.
Thank you so much in advance. Note: I’m not on facebook so, I can only be contacted by email at brightonians@cogeco.ca.

Hi,
I have a random question regarding a specific type of wool. My mam is in the middle of knitting an aran cardigan at the moment but unfortunately she has run out of wool. The wool she bought is from Aldi. It’s by a company called ‘Kirkton House’. It’s an aran yarn 400g. It’s a wine colour. The shade number is either 103, dye lot 19A or it could be shade 004, dye lot 16A. Not too sure which one it is.
Would really appreciate it if you knew of somewhere we could get the wool. Contact me at nadeybags@gmail.com
Thanks a million,
Sinéad

This is my first visit to this site so bear with me. I just received this post from you, addressed to Lisa. I think there was some confusion – I’m not Lisa but Louise. However, after reading your reply to Lisa, I realized that I have a crochet pattern for an octopus and a starfish. I had printed the free crochet patterns from http://www.redheart.com back in 2010. The pattern no. is LW2193 for the purple octapus and for the yellow/pumpkin starfish.
So, if you can, please forward this information to Lisa.
Nice to talk to you!
